I once sat in a plane next to a gentleman from Bombay, who gave me an earful about the name change to Mumbai.... It was, to him, pure political nonsense, and for him it would always be Bombay. I guess that was sort of how I felt when I first heard about it, but over time I guess the new name has grown on me.
Compared to the chaos of many other Indian cities, Mumbai is quiet and sophisticated....
Security was tight near the gateway, after the terrorist attacks of 2008.
