There has never been a lack of English in India, but I was really surprised this time.... Hindi seems to be endangered.... Probably 3 of 4 store signs are in English.
I often hear people speaking with each other in English.... Our car drivers have been more comfortable speaking in Hindi, although they seem to know English.
Almost all books on sale here are in English.
(Why in the world is "Mein Kampf" on sale? Can you see it in the middle of these books?)
I don't know what the rest of India is like, but if it is at all like Delhi, I wouldn't be surprised if Hindi is gone in 50 years (....I exaggerate).
