Mount Rushmore

The last time I was at Mount Rushmore was back in the early 80s, when only a small road came up to the monument.... 30 years makes a difference. The entryway is a fullblown tourist destination, including a visitor center, gift shop, restaurant, and performance stage. And I doubt that the old road of my memory could have handled the crowds that come today.

The kids got their junior ranger badges again.

You don't usually see Mount Rushmore from any angle other than the front. I thought the following was really cool, a view from the road coming in.

We stayed for the lighting ceremony (which, through an error of communication, our neighbors in the stands told us would be a lasar light show :/ ). After a half an hour of patriotic songs and flag protocol by local boy scouts, the monument was lit up.

It really is quite beautiful.
